General

What is LightsTogether? Who can become a part of it?

A: At its core, LightsTogether is a social network designed for the church (a broader concept of the Body of Christ). Church and ministry websites are traditionally informational, and at best transactional, but LightsTogether allows churches and ministries to do relationship-oriented and transformational ministry on the web. Churches are communities of real people with real connections and relationships, and LightsTogether represents those connections and relationships in an online context. LightsTogether allows churches and ministries to BE churches on the web (WebChurch).

Is LightsTogether Free?

A: For individuals, YES! If you are a church, a ministry, a university, or a Christian company and want to create your LightsTogether WebMinistry, you will pay a monthly fee or have one of our Ministry Partners/Sponsors sponsor your site. Click here to learn more about Ministry Partners/Sponsors.

How do I invite friends to LightsTogether?

Is this website only for churches/ministries? Can other organizations participate?

A: Sure. Any Christian organization can participate. Anyone that wants to have a real and community-based presence online can become a part of LightsTogether. Whether you are a church, a missionary family, a house church, a company, a school or university or even a band, you are welcome here!

What is the difference between a group and a project?

A: A Group can be a church, a ministry of a church, a band, etc. Such organizations can create LightsTogether Groups to facilitate their ministry purposes online by providing communication mechanisms, media infrastructure and other resources to enhance that ministry’s goals. A Project is an activity within a Group.

What is a WebChurch or a WebMinistry?

A: A WebChurch is your church's presence online. It is an extension of the actual church that connects people to people, to groups and to projects. This is conceptually different than most Church websites, because it is a relational and transformational online community, not a "bulletin board" that only displays outdated information.

Can anyone create a group or a project? Is this free?

A: Individuals can create informal groups, which have some limitations. Churches and ministries can create as many groups as they need.

Can anyone within LightsTogether join my group or project?

A: Yes. However, Group and Project administrators/leaders have the power to authorize or not authorize anyone from joining their organization.

Can I invite people who do not use LightsTogether to be a part of my Group / Project?

A: Yes, just click the “Invite People” link in your Group or Project page.

Is LightsTogether using any mechanism to prevent foul language and inappropriate Content?

A: We approach content screening from a Christian World View, which naturally cuts down on these type of social network issues. But it also makes us a target for intermittent content problems that are being addressed as follows:

  • All churches will be verified to prevent "fake" groups.
  • The system is self-policing with a link on every page to report anything inappropriate.
  • All words will be run against a filter and flagged.
  • Content screeners will check all media as it is uploaded. Action will be taken within a maximum period of 48 hours.

How do I report abuse?

A: To report abuse or any inappropriate content in the site, write an e-mail to content@lightstogether.com, or if you are logged into LightsTogether, you can click the RED FLAG that appears on the top right corner of every LightsTogether page.
